JCoSS Jewish Community Secondary School

JCoSS is the UK's first Jewish, cross-communal state funded secondary school, catering on an equal basis to the needs of the entire Jewish community.

By 2017, it will have 1310 places made up of 180 students (six forms of entry) in each year group. There will be fifty spaces in the Special Resource Provision for students on the autistic spectrum.

The brand new school is located on the site of the previous school site and has been designed by RHWL Architects. The £50 million, state-of-the-art building has a unique, magnificent atrium and the very latest technology. The site is set on the edge of the green belt and is easily accessible from Barnet, South Hertfordshire and neighbouring boroughs.

JCoSS will offer superb facilities including dance studios, science laboratories, music and ensemble rooms, allweather pitches, a dedicated synagogue, landscaped grounds and spaces for outside learning.

Local Enfield firm, Ardmore Construction, was awarded the main contractor role and Ardmore's own Mechanical & Electrical division won the M&E contract. White Associates, a Kent-based M&E Design Consultancy firm, were appointed to undertake the detailed M&E design.

Working with White Associates, Rural Energy provided a wood pellet fired biomass boiler to meet the planning requirements of the project. A 150kW Herz FireMatic boiler with a flexible pellet auger now delivers renewable heat to the school, with gas boilers meeting the peak load requirements.
